Mr. Rubinton is a 1986 graduate of the University of South Florida and 1989 graduate of Nova Southeastern University School of Law. He is admitted to the Florida Bar and United States District Court, Middle and Southern Districts.
Mr. Rubinton began his career as a Staff Attorney for Legal Aid Services of Broward, Inc. where he was responsible for representing tenants in litigation against property owners and governmental agencies. Mr. Rubinton then accepted a position as a Senior Assistant Attorney General for the State of Florida in the economic crime unit, where he was responsible for environmental claims litigation throughout Florida, as well as prosecuting and investigating consumer fraud.
Mr. Rubinton was lead trial counsel on such highly publicized cases as State of Florida, Department of Legal of Affairs v. Father and Son Moving & Storage et al. and State of Florida, Department of Natural Resources and Department of Environmental Protection v. Kawama Club Condominium et al. During his tenure with the State of Florida, he was a member of the Law Enforcement Coastal Protection Statutory Review Committee, National Association of Attorneys General Environmental Task Force, South Florida Chapter of the League of Environmental Enforcement and Prosecution (Chairman 1992) and was counsel to the State of Florida's Oil Spill Response Team. Mr. Rubinton handled claims for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in cases involving oil spill litigation, Superfund, illegal dredge and fill, destruction of mangroves, illegal dumping, natural resource damages, solid and hazardous waste, contamination of soils and ground water.
Thereafter, Mr. Rubinton continued his governmental and environmental practice, and expanded to insurance defense after taking a position with the state wide firm of Kubicki Draper, P.A., in Miami. There, he handled environmental litigation, tort litigation, and governmental law for private and governmental clients. In addition, he counseled insureds on the purchase and sale of contaminated property, disposal of underground storage tanks, and cost recovery/remediation actions.
Mr. Rubinton then joined the statewide firm of Luks, Koleos & Santaniello, P.A. as a partner, and continued to develop and expand his insurance and commercial practice throughout the state. After several years of building his knowledge at LK&S, Mr. Rubinton left to form the firm of Rubinton & Laufer, LLC, wanting his clientele to be served in a small firm environment to assure client satisfaction.
Mr. Rubinton has lectured on the issues of “bad-faith”, premises liability, comparative negligence, environmental causes of action in Florida and unfair and deceptive trade practices.
